Can a medical assistant move into a medical billing or coding career more easily than someone with no medical experience whatsoever? Quite possibly. These days, many medical assistants perform several front office duties, which often include medical billing and coding. With this in mind, the medical assistant is more familiar with procedures and codes in general.
A good place for those formerly known (or still known) as medical assistants to start is by studying billing codes via a good program. Because you are probably still working, an online series of courses might work better with your schedule, and enable you to conveniently achieve your education goals.
Additionally, classes that you may have taken for medical assisting, such as anatomy and medical terminology, will undoubtedly assist you in your new career.
